Word Up!: It's true- Jesus is alive!

Today’s lesson was on Jesus‘s death, burial, resurrection, and evidence that Jesus is alive as He showed Himself to the disciples. Throughout the lesson we used a “treasure map” as a guide for finding clues in the Scripture for each of these events. Together we stepped back in time as we heard the conversation between Cleopas, another disciple, and Jesus on the road to Emmaus. We find this account in Luke 24:13-35.

As the three traveled the seven miles from Emmaus to Jerusalem, Jesus explained to them from the Scriptures how prophecies about Himself had been fulfilled. The two disciples did not recognize at first that it was Jesus speaking to them. Not only did these two disciples see Jesus alive after His resurrection, but Jesus stayed on earth 40 days after His resurrection and was seen by many.

Acts 1:3 “To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of things regarding the kingdom of God.”

1 Corinthians 15:6a “After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time” They had seen the places where the nails had gone through His hands and feet when He died on the cross. Jesus let them touch Him so they would know He was real. Jesus opened their minds to understand the Scriptures that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead.

The main truth is “it’s true: Jesus is alive!” The disciples had a newfound boldness to share the good news that Jesus is alive. And if you have believed in Jesus as your Savior, you can trust that God‘s Word is always true!
