Word Up!: The Holy Spirit is the Helper

As we saw in the Gospels, the disciples were very human. They struggled with the same temptations that we struggle with. In fact, one of them contradicted Jesus, who then had to strongly admonish Him. They were weak. But Jesus knew this and promised to send a Helper who would give them power to be His witnesses. That Helper was the Holy Spirit.

The disciples, who waited in Jerusalem as Jesus had instructed, heard a sound like a mighty rushing wind and the Holy Spirit filled the disciples with His power.

The people in Jerusalem rushed to find out what had caused that strange sound. They heard the disciples speaking in many languages, telling the Good News that Jesus was the one God had sent. They said that Jesus’ death had been God’s plan all along so that He would pay the price so their sins could be forgiven. Hebrews 9:22b “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.”
