Jesus: God of Power & Glory 2
Lesson 2: Jesus Calms a Terrible Storm
Big Idea: Jesus is the all-powerful God. You can trust Him!
The waves were crashing. The wind was howling. The rain was pouring. The disciples were panicking. But the Lord was sleeping. He had perfect peace in the midst of the storm. The disciples could have had that same peace. They could have been resting in the presence of their Savior, but they panicked. They tried to take matters into their own hands—bailing faster, rowing harder—but nothing worked until they turned to Jesus. As soon as they looked to the only one who could offer help, He did just that. “Peace, be still,” Jesus commanded and creation obeyed. The waves were suddenly still. The wind was silent. The rain was gone. The panicking disciples were in awe of their Maker, who had displayed His mighty power. The disciples were taught an important lesson through the storm. Jesus is always in control and He is to be trusted.
In his growth narrative Bible lesson, children learn that they need to run to the Lord Jesus in every situation and trust Him above all. The children can learn to trust the Lord as they get to know Him better by reading the Bible and prayer. When they pray, they can look to The Lord’s Prayer as a model and ask for God’s will to be done, even in the stormy times of life.
Scriptures: Mark 4:35-41
Memory Verse: Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.(Matthew 6:10)
