Jesus: God of Power & Glory 5
Lesson 5: Jesus Explains His Amazing Plan
Big Idea: Jesus has power to save you from sin and rule your life.
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God,” Peter declared. He understood. Peter
got it. Jesus is the Christ—the anointed one. He is God Himself who came to Earth. Yet Peter and the other disciples didn’t understand the ramifications of this truth Peter declared. When Jesus told them of His impending death and resurrection, they couldn’t comprehend how this could possibly occur. Jesus was too powerful and perfect to die, or so they thought. They had high hopes that Christ would overthrow the oppressive Roman government and make the nation of Israel politically great. The disciples needed to learn to trust the power and authority of Christ as God’s Son. At Christ’s transfiguration, God spoke to Peter, James, and John, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him.” This doctrinal evangelistic lesson emphasizes the deity and authority of Christ, the Savior. He is God’s Son and we can trust and obey Him.
Jesus gives us the power to say no to sin, and we need to ask for help when we are tempted. Children are challenged to acknowledge Jesus as Lord of their life by praying for victory over sin.
Jesus is God and He is worthy of worship, not just from the children, but from you! Will you praise God today? Praise Him for who He really is and pray for the children God entrusted in your care. Ask God to reveal Himself to them as the Christ, the Son of the Living God— their Savior.
