Be the Light in the Dark World

Dear CEFSGV Friends and Family,

Happy Spring 2022!

You may have seen fireworks that lit up the sky in commemoration of the new year!

How amazing is our Creator God to speak of “lights” and it came to be in the very beginning. The Bible says in Genesis 1:3, "Let there be light"; and there was light. Then in Genesis 1:14-15, the Bible says "Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth" and it was so. The events of the fourth day are somewhat controversial. Some claim that verses 14 and 15 simply repeat what God said in verses 3 and 4. However, note the difference: God describes the creation of conditions to permit light to penetrate the earth's atmosphere. In verse 14, God is being very specific about certain "lights" that became visible from the surface of the earth. These specific lights were created to serve "for signs and seasons, and for days and years." (Bibletools.org)

Since the beginning of time, God was intentional and specific when He created the heavens and the earth. He created us with a specific purpose. When Jesus came, He showed us what it meant to be a “light.” He modeled even to the very last breath. He willingly fulfilled His purpose. Jesus gave us a command to do the same.

I pray as we move into the year of 2022, we can be intentional with what the bible says we ought to be in Matthew 5:14-16, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

3. Live out your faith so you will shine brightly to others

4. Be intentional and specific to doing the work

5. Return the glory and praise back to our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ
